David was a lovely gentleman who was prompt and efficient in unclogging the drains. I was informed when he was on his way and sent a link to track his location so I knew exactly when he would arrive. He was polite and considerate and explained the issue to me once he had fixed it. Definitely will be using this service again! Very reliable!

I used Sharpline for an old toilet with bad pipes and called as a matter of urgency. Chad from Sharpline was very punctual, great communication, so friendly and incredibly professional. He gave us advice and a heads up to what would need to happen to fix the issue long term (which at the time we weren't in a position to do). I highly recommend using Chad as a plumber.

How to Use a Drain Snake to Clear Clogs

Ever experienced that heart-sinking moment when the water in your sink or shower decides to play a game of ‘Let’s Not Go Down the Drain Today?’ We’ve all been there, and it’s no fun. Do you know how to clear blocked drains? Have you tried using a drain snake?

In this guide, we’ll explore the ins and outs of using a drain snake to clear those stubborn blockages and blocked drains in Sydney, all while keeping it simple and easy to understand.

What Is a Drain Snake?

So, what exactly is this drain snake, you might ask? Well, it’s not a scaly creature slithering through your pipes, but rather a flexible tool designed to navigate through the twists and turns of your plumbing system.

A drain snake, also known as an auger, is like a flexible and elongated wire with a unique hook or coil at its end. Think of it as a plumber’s best friend – a long, coiled wire with a tip that’s ready to wrestle with the most stubborn of clogs.

When you insert the snake into a clogged drain and turn the handle, it starts rotating and twisting. As it goes deeper into the pipe, the hook catches onto the clog or debris causing the blockage. And ss you keep turning the handle, the coil’s grip on the clog tightens, which allows you to pull it out or break it apart.

Locating the Blockage

Before you start snaking away, it’s important to identify the exact location of the blockage in your blocked drains in Sydney. Is it the kitchen sink, bathroom drain or perhaps a clogged toilet? Knowing this will help you approach the problem strategically. For instance, a blockage in the kitchen sink might be caused by a buildup of grease and food particles, while a bathroom clog could be a result of hair and soap scum.

Gearing Up: What You’ll Need

No need to don a cape, but you should gather your arsenal before starting on your drain-clearing adventure. Here’s your checklist:

  • Drain Snake: The star of the show, this will do the heavy lifting.
  • Rubber Gloves: Things might get a bit messy, so protect your hands.
  • Bucket and Old Towels: A safety net to catch any debris that makes an appearance.
  • Flashlight: Shedding light on the situation – literally.
  • Patience: A virtue, especially when dealing with stubborn clogs and blocked drains in Sydney.

Getting Down to Business: The Step-by-Step Guide

So, you’re ready to take on the clog challenge head-on? Fantastic! Grab your gloves, muster your patience and let’s get into the nitty-gritty of using a drain snake to clear the path for smooth-flowing water in your Sydney’s blocked drains.

  1. Prepare the Area: Before you leap into action, lay down those trusty old towels around the drain and position your bucket nearby. These trusty companions will catch any debris attempting to escape your clutches.
  2. Insert the Drain Snake: Gently insert the tip of the drain snake into the blocked drains in Sydney
  3. Navigate and Rotate: As you feel resistance (which you likely will), start turning the handle of the snake. This rotation helps the snake find its way through the clog.
  4. Break It Down: Once you feel like you’re making headway, you’ve got the clog on the ropes. Keep rotating and gently pushing until you sense the clog breaking up.
  5. Retreat: With the clog loosened, it’s time to slowly pull out the drain snake. Be prepared for a bit of mess.
  6. Flush and Test: Run some water down the drain to see if the clog is history.

When using a drain snake, safety should be a priority. For instance, a pair of rubber gloves not only protects your hands from mess but also from any potential gunk or debris. If you suspect that your plumbing pipes might be on the delicate side, be extra cautious. Gentle rotations and patience will prevent unintended mishaps.

It’s also a good idea to wear safety goggles. Debris or splashes might decide to take an unexpected leap, and we wouldn’t want them to find your eyes.

With these safety tips, you’ll not only remove clogs from blocked drains in Sydney like a pro but also ensure that your plumbing remains intact and trouble-free. To ensure your drains stay unblocked, check out these top tips.
